What exactly does an Associate Chancellor and Chief of Staff do?
Kristofco: In a lot of ways, I shadow the Chancellor. I help her remember all the issues she has to deal with each day. I assemble agendas and materials for meetings in advance so that when people arrive, the discussion can focus on the issue at hand. And I keep track of action plans that everyone has agreed will move things forward. Marye Anne’s leadership style is to be inclusive; she strongly believes in shared governance, and she has sought the input of an expanded circle of advisors, including the vice chancellors and leaders across the campus. She likes to get everyone who is involved with an issue together to discuss the options and come to a consensus so that, by the time they leave the room, everyone has agreed to support the decision that has been reached.
