What exactly are active substance cosmetics?
Active substance cosmetics are cosmetic preparations that influence the condition of the skin in a favourable manner, both subjectively as well as objectively. A typical example for this is the traditional skin cream containing oil, Urea or other ingredients that moisturize dry skin. By applying the cream, the transepidermal water loss (TEWL) through the skin barrier is reduced, which can be measured. Actual active substance cosmetics in its literal sense have to be distinguished from these remedies, though. Here, the demanded effect has to be attributed to the presence of a certain substance or substance mix.
