The finches that live on the Galapagos Islands off the South American continent in the Pacific. These finches became very specialized according the what kind of food they ate. If they drank nectar from long-throated trumpet flowers their beaks became very long and curved – an exact replica of the flower’s anatomy. If they ate hard seeds the finches developed a tough and thick crushing beak. There were 13 species of finches deposited over the islands developed from 1 common ancestor and each one had adapted to their different food supply. Also these birds developed all these different food supplies so they did not compete with each other over scant resources. It remains to be very fascinating.
