What Ethics Are Apparent In Journalism?
There are a lot of ethics that come into the practice of journalism. Objectivity is very important. The public relies on modern media to provide an objective view of issues that does not favour any one side. As well, many journalists hold it as a principle to protect the identity of sources if they want to remain anonymous. This is an extremely potent principle because it can allow journalists access to information that might otherwise be top secret. For this reason, many journalists feel that it is important to protect the identity of sources when necessary because it benefits the trust and standing given to journalists as the ‘trustees’ of information. It is important that they use this information in an honourable and truthful way. Also important is that journalists maintain a healthy scepticism. That is, they should always double and triple check facts. Also, they should look at information from sources in an objective manner.
