What equipment would i need to keep a horse at grass?
I am taking this question to assume you want to know what kind of FENCING you would need to keep a horse in a field. If the horse you are getting respects electric fencing, then your most economical and easiest option is to put in stakes and white tape. This can be purchased at any major feed store and online. www.tractorsupply.com Other than that you will need a water tub which should be checked daily and cleaned weekly as well as a shelter to protect the horse from the heat, wind, cold, rain, etc. If the horse is accustomed to being out in the field this can be as simple as a run-in shelter with three sides and a roof. Pasture size wise, the general rule of thumb is two acres for one horse and an additional acre for any horses after that.
You’ll need a shelter. Good fencing. And something for water. Grooming supplies; curry, dandy, hoof pick, ect. Halter, and if you plan on leaving it on while in pasture, have a safety release halter. Lead rope, or two. I am assuming you plan on riding, so you’ll probably want a saddle, saddle pad, and bridle. Plus a helmet and boots with a heel. You might want a blanket, but this depends on if the horse was already being blanketed. If so I assume he comes with his own.
