What equipment should be used for breath testing and on-site urine testing?
Clause 3 of the Regulation requires that: • a breath testing device must comply with AS 3547 – 1997, Breath alcohol testing devices for personal use. (AS 3547 – 1997 specifies requirements for devices that indicate the concentration of alcohol in a person’s blood by testing that person’s breath) • an on-site drug screening device (to determine the presence or absence of drugs in urine) must use an immunoassay technique that meets the initial test cut-off levels listed in Table 1 of AS/NZS 4308:2008, Procedures for specimen collection and the detection and quantitation of drugs of abuse in urine. NB. Training on testing equipment is not covered in the ITSR Model Training Course for Drug and Alcohol Testing Officers, as rail transport operators may use a variety of different devices.
