What equipment is used in transfer of containers from train to truck or truck to train?
The equipment falls into two basic categories: straddle cranes, which span one or more tracks and paved areas for chassis placement, and sideloaders. Straddle cranes may operate on fixed rails or with large rubber tires. Sideloaders resemble oversized forklifts and are normally equipped with spreaders so that the containers are actually picked up by their top lift points. They have telescoping columns so that they can stack containers three or four high for intermediate storage.
