What equipment is needed?
A typical setup for a wireless Internet connection is: Computer (Pentium or higher, 32 MB or higher, Windows 98Se or newer) Network card and router (not required) Cable from your computer or router to the antenna at your location Mounting brackets to secure the antenna to your roof or existing tower on your roof
A.Included with your startup package is our basic radio equipment which includes an outdoor antenna. If the antenna can be mounted close to your house it is connected by coax antenna wire to the radio unit inside of your home. If the distance is farther like on a pole, a building or a tower on the other side of a grove of trees or on top of a silo or a barn the radio is integrated with the antenna and your computer or router is connected by Ethernet cable. The closer the antenna is to the radio the better. We don’t install anything in your computer. Our service does not require proprietary equipment. Any 802.11 wireless radio with ad hoc as a feature such as the radio cards in modern notebook computers will be able to get our service if they can get a signal. Modern wireless equipment including that in the latest notebooks is very powerful and has a much longer range than equipment from even as little as a year ago.
• a climbing helmet to protect you from hitting a metal rung, from falling stones, water bottles etc. • a climbing harness • a dynamic lanyard in a “Y” shape (ie one lanyard that then divides into two) combined with a “zipper”, “zyper” or “dissipater” which is actually a shock absorber. The “zipper” will dampen the jerk in case of a fall. The lanyard is fixed to the harness with a fast opening carabiner. All good mountaineering stores sell Via Ferrata Kits at about 40,00 Euros (harness and helmet not included). • walking or trekking boots/shoes. • a back pack with warm clothes, something to drink, some food, a whistle etc. Basically what a conscientious trekker would have in his back pack in order to face the possible sudden changes in mountain weather. You will be climbing on a wonderfully effective lightning conductor. Avoid finding yourself on a Via Ferrata during a thunderstorm. • a pair of working gloves that are not too warm. Your hands get sore after a while clinging on to the m
• Computer (Pentium or higher, 32 MB or higher, Windows 95 or newer, Macs, too) with a network card • Optional Router/Firewall if you plan to connect more than one computer. How fast is Wireless Internet? [Back] Depending on the radio equipment at your location, your connection can receive and send information 10 Mbps depending upon the customer’s package. Our standard broadband offering for $39.95 per month is up to 1024 Kbps download / 256 Kbps upload. What’s the security level of the connection? [Back] The way in which wireless Internet is implemented makes it very difficult to intercept, therefore it’s quite secure. The hopping sequence could be observed but only in the case of one unit transmitting as an access point without other units in proximity. As additional units utilize the signal, it becomes exponentially more difficult to isolate one signal. A specific code is used to allow only approved radio clients to associate with any given access point. Also, the wireless system “f
