For the recording aspect, I always recommend a computer application I use for my music (I do EBM/Industrial, not hip hop, but it works great for hip hop, as well). The name of the application is Orion Platinum. Orion has a mixer section, mastering section, several built-in instruments, and a song arranger. It is compatible with Direct-X and VST effects as well as VST instruments. Several VST effects and instruments are free downloads, so there is no end as to what you can use in Orion. You can check out Orion as a demo at http://www.synapse-audio.com . The full version is $125, last I checked… great price for everything it offers. As for production, you can download beats and samples from various sources, plug it into Orion, and go from there. The rest is all up to how creative you are and how good your ears are! 🙂 Good luck!
