What environments offer the best fit for QD?
• Where there are one or more large, busy databases where users and analysts cannot perform the kinds of queries, analysis, or reporting that need to be done • Where many remote employees could benefit from having continuous access to their database • Where the network or the database server are overburdened with database queries • Where database administrators cannot provide satisfactory service to all of their remote users • In which environments might QD be a poor fit? • Where end-users require read-write access to the database. • Where end-users are required to use thin clients. A thin client will not have sufficient disk space or memory to store the compressed database or to execute complex queries. • Where real-time database access is required on laptops and desktops. Since updates must be prepared and downloaded to clients, it is inevitable for time to pass between data being added to the main database and its availability for download, and the actual download itself.
