What entities are included in METRO DISTRICTS?
Metropolitan Council, Met Transit District (Chanhassen & Chaska Residents only), and Mosquito Control. Metropolitan Council is a regional planning agency serving the Twin Cities seven-county metropolitan area. Some of the services provided are operating the region’s largest bus system, collecting and treating wastewater, providing planning acquisitions, and funding for a regional system of parks and trails. Met Transit District is a taxing district, not an agency. The Met Transit District (MTD) is defined by law as the taxing district within which the Metropolitan Council levied transit operating taxes. It is comprised of cities in the urbanized portion of the seven-county metropolitan region. In Carver County, only the cities of Chanhassen & Chaska are in the MTD. Mosquito Control district services include surveying for and controlling mosquitoes that transmit human diseases; monitoring deer tick populations, and public education.
