What employment opportunities are there for technical communicators?
Short answer: Many everywhere. Long answer: Technical communicators may work in companies involved with computers, electronics, aerospace, biotechnology, medicine, scientific research and development, engineering, construction, the automotive industry, and others. The job title is usually “Technical Writer”, but titles can vary by company and industry. In the Bay Area, most computer, multimedia, and high-tech companies need people to write manuals and on-line documentation. In addition, government agencies, service firms, and non-profits need people who can write manuals and translate the end-users’ goals into a designer’s specifications.
