What embodies southern California urban culture better than the skateboard?
The California Heritage Museum recognizes the impact SoCal has had on the nation with an exhibit on the evolution of the skateboard from the early 20th Century to the present. On display are the riders, designers, artists, and manufacturers that created California’s first skateboards. • The Autry National Center has some compelling exhibits now. Charting the Canyon is an exhibit of mural-scale photography by Mark Klett and Byron Wolfe. The artists combine recent and historic images of the Grand Canyon to create large-scale panoramic collages that convey so effectively the limits of photography to capture nature’s most dramatic landscapes.
