Answer Hi Sarah, Everybody is influenced by the things they experience in their lives, things they learn in school, read about, see, hear, and more. Shakespeare was no different. I’m sure Shakespeare would have been influenced by his schooling, by his home life as the son of a glover who was also mayor of his hometown, by his marriage and children, by his reading, by his life in London. However, since Shakespeare left us no letters, diaries or other personal papers, we have no way of knowing exactly what he was influenced by. The only way we have of guessing is by reading his plays and poems. Since his work is based on lots of different sources – Greek and Roman history and myths; English, Danish and Scottish history; stories, poems and legends from various countries – it’s clear he read alot and was influenced by it, at least enough to use it in his writing.
