What else was going on during the Impressionism period?
The movement of Impressionism ran from 1870 to 1890. The Industrial Revolution was probably the biggest event. Other world events during those years include the Franco-Prussian War, 1870; Leo Tolstoy publishes ‘Anna Karenina’ in 1875; George Eastman patents a process to make dry photographic plates in 1879; the London ‘tube’ is built in 1884; Queen Victoria celebrates her Golden Jubilee in 1887; Loie Fuller uses silk scarves and electric lights to create her ‘serpentine dance’ in 1889.
