What else are zeolites used for?
Besides being used for adsorption, both natural zoelites (and their synthetic counterparts) are used in pollution control, petroleum refining and gas purification processes. Beyond increasing the efficiency of gasoline production, zeolites may someday eliminate our dependence on oil entirely. Zeolites are being developed to store enough hydrogen so it can be used in fuel tanks of cars instead of gasoline. In a few years, through the revolutionary technology of zeolites, we may be using hydrogen instead of gasoline as our main fuel source. Natural zeolite minerals are also used in construction materials, in carriers, fillers and coatings, aquaculure and agriculture. Other uses include wastewater treatment, solar energy and radioactive waste disposal. Natural zeolites were used in the cleaning of Three NELe Island and Chernobyl.
