What elements are involved to reach the goals?
AHCC’s goals will be realized through implementing four interconnected facets. Facet #1: Annual themes – Year 1: Government (i.e., major legal cases, We the People Initiative, the Amendments); Year 2: Time, Continuity, and Changes (i.e., the Revolutionary War and the Declaration of Independence, WWII and post-war foreign policy); and Year 3: People, Places and Environments (i.e., Manifest Destiny, Louisiana Purchase, immigration patterns). AHCC Facet #2: Pedagogical Methods – Teaching strategies and skills will be presented within the context of American history content. AHCC Facet #3: Historical Inquiry – Teachers (and, in turn, their students) will be given opportunities to learn and apply the skills of historians. AHCC Facet #4: Instructional Resources – Teachers will be provided with instructional materials, information on local and national initiatives, and technologies they can immediately use to create more engaging American history curriculum units.
