What effects will the facility have on supply/demand of butadiene?
In the Southeast Texas area, the new facility will serve to meet the demand for expansions of local butadiene customers and it will reduce the dependency on material to be brought into the area. It is anticipated that for the U.S. economy, there will be a reduction of imports of butadiene, although the U.S. will continue to import substantial quantities of butadiene. The demand for butadiene is growing at 2-3 percent per year. No major butadiene projects have been implemented in the U.S. for several years.
