There are thousands of businesses and jobs that a smoking ban will directly threaten. It is a fact that at least 750 Michigan restaurants and bars – near American Indian-owned casinos, restaurants and bars – will be at a severe disadvantage. Each of these businesses employs at least 10 workers, with many employing 100 or more. Our research strongly suggests a smoking ban that excludes American Indian-owned establishments could close at least 750 small businesses, eliminating at least 7,500 Michigan jobs.
