What effect will Vicente Foxs presidency have on the direction of the Mexican economy?
Short of there being a revolutionary transformation for all Mexicanos and Mexicanas (including those of us living within the current borders of the United States), the direction of the Mexican economy will remain the same, and if there is any change it will be an acceleration of the neoliberal policies that have resulted in the rape and pillage of our national patrimony. The presidency of Vicente Fox represents the ascendancy of the most reactionary sector of the ruling class within México, and in fact most of the economic “reforms” imposed by the PRI government have been supported (and sometimes even generated) by the PAN (the political party of Fox). How has the crisis in Mexico impacted the Mexican population on this side of the militarily imposed U.S. border?
