What effect will this have on the LDAs Masterplan for the park?
There is a lot of good thinking embodied in the LDA master plan for Crystal Palace Park. Its big omission is the reason for the Park in the first place – which was as a context for hosting an actual Crystal Palace, which was run on commercial lines and did so to benefit the Park. It was a total commercial and benefaction picture. The Park would not be here today if that was not the case. My own view is that the master-planners advising the LDA were ‘afraid’ of the Crystal Palace. Whilst I understand that (it is an awesome precedent), I think that omission was short sighted and needs to be rectified. The Crystal Palace should be the centre piece of Crystal Palace Park once again. I would be very pleased to work with the LDA to that end as would Stephen Carr, the Leader of the London Borough of Bromley as the landowner.
