What effect will the initiative have on Oxnard elementary and high schools?
Each year, Oxnard elementary and high schools receive 5 to 10 million dollars in development fees. These funds are used to build new schools, modernize existing schools, replace temporary trailers with permanent structures, and acquire sites. If these funds are lost because of no new development, there will no money for school building repairs and upgrades. In addition to the development fees, the loss of additional property tax will negatively affect the schools’ budgets.
