What effect does grain growing have on global warming?
Grain growing effects global warming through the amount of water and fossil fuel resources needed to grow crops, and significantly in the land clearing that is required to grow crops. As the population currently stands at about 6billion, the land being used to cultivate crops is enormous, and is land that was once forest. In comparison to the production of meat grain growing has a much lower impact on the environment due to the use of more water and fossil fuel energy and also the higher amount of methane (GHG) produced by cattle. However, grain growing still has a role to play in the global warming we are experiencing today, and this will only increase in time as our population grows and the demand for food resources increase.
