What effect do signing bonus have on offering players (and them accepting) long term contracts?
Bonus’ have the same effect on a long term contract as they do on short term contracts. A bonus will cause a player to settle for less money than he otherwise would. The amount of money that a player will settle for is not a one to one ratio, though. For example, if you have a player asking for $1,000,000 per season and you offer him a $1,000,000 bonus he won’t play for nothing.
