What effect did J.S. Bach have on music in his time?
His status as great organist was more popular than his compositions in his time, but his work is so amazing because of his perfect understanding and phrasing of musical form and he was a pioneer of music as we know it today. He was a pure genius! Many composers and musicians look up to Bach and his mastering of counterpoint and fugue. In addition to what the others before me have said, both Beethoven and Mozart studied the Well-Tempered Clavier, Mozart transcribing some of the fugues and preludes to a string chamber ensemble, and Mendelssohn later on reviving the composer’s work and spreading it throughout Europe.
