What education data systems are currently in place in California?
California has already taken significant steps towards improving its education data by developing the California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System (CALPADS), which under current law will provide the ability to follow a student’s academic performance over time, and California Longitudinal Teacher Integrated Data Education System (CALTIDES), which under current law will track teacher qualification, preparation, and workforce trends. CALPADS is expected to be fully implemented in 2009-10 and CALTIDES will be implemented a year later. Together, the systems will provide important information about our K-12 system by using student- and teacher-level data to track trends in student achievement. This will help California to identify strategies that are effective in improving student achievement, identify what is not working and make adjustments accordingly.
