What eco-minded things does Alaska Outdoors do?
Mark: Lately we have been emphasized reducing the amount of waste that is associated with our meal productions in the field-purchasing products that have less packaging, in amounts we can reasonably utilize so a minimal amount left over. We have developed a relationship with a local organic produce farm in Alaska that provides us with a great deal of the produce we use on our trips. And we bring a lot of natural history and interpretation into our program-we do a lot of education in the field as to why we do things this way, and educate our clients about the impacts that are associated with our trips, and some of the ways we’re trying to reduce those impacts. What trends have you seen in travel since you started? Mark: The travel consumer is becoming savvier in their understanding of the eco-tourism concept. They’re becoming increasingly aware of the impacts that go along with travel, and the infrastructure that supports sustainable businesses has grown-in fact it’s grown rather rapidl
