What drives women to take up professional bodybuilding? Isn this akin to men trying their hardest to?
Yes, yes and maybe, I agree for the most part. I think the really full-on female bodybuilders, the ones who take steroids, are those who are in denial about their femaleness. Probably, as young girls, they would have identified with boys much more than other girls. Then, as puberty hits, they would feel ashamed about being weaker than males, and about their breasts, periods etc. So they would go into denial about being female and seek to compensate for that by working out their muscles and bodybuilding. Can they still have children? Possibly – you can take a lot of steroids and still be a fully-functioning woman – look at Marion Jones for instance, who has had a couple of kids.
