What dose TDCi mean on the ford diesel cars ?
TDCi is an acronym for Turbo Diesel Common Rail injection. In Ford cars with diesel engines, this rail can withstand pressure needed for larger vehicles such as the Ford heavy-duty trucks as well as other manufacturers such as Dodge and Chevrolet.
The more powerful injection of fuel allows the driver to haul heavier loads and get a much faster response time from the engine. The injection process is much more precise to allow for greater speed of response, which also saves energy by not wasting fuel as a result of longer response times.
I am not much aware of the fuel injection technique, this question inspires me for doing little bit search on the fuel injection technique. I will defiantly come back to answer it.
Ford cars
Turbo Diesel Common Rail injection. The fuel is pressurised into a tube called a rail (which is very thick, designed to withstand very high pressure). This “rail” has several injectors attached to it which are controlled electronically by computer (rather than controlled mechanically by fuel pressure in older diesel engines) allowing the injector to be partly open rather than just open or closed (as in the older type). This gives more immediate and precise injection into the carbs when required by the driver (according to inputs into throttle pedal). This means quicker responses and more a efficient engine as less fuel is wasted due to higher precision. This is my understanding of the process having worked for the company that designed the common rail.
