What don people understand about the difference between the fiddle and the violin?

While violin type instruments originate from multiple sources, in modern parlance, what you’re saying doesn’t reflect contemporary scholarship. The instrument contemporarily known as a “fiddle” does not originate from the sources you claim, but was developed along exactly similar lines as that of the violin, used in art music.
