What dogs can compete in Agility?
Any dog who is sound (healthy and not physically hindered) may compete in agility. Dogs need not be purebreds. All sizes compete, from Chihuahuas to Irish Wolfhounds. Dogs must be at least 15 months old to compete. Training, however, can begin at a very early age provided it is done in a way that is safe and fun for a growing puppy. Herding dogs like Border Collies, Shetland Sheepdogs and Corgis are particularly adept in agility, although such unlikely breeds as Basset Hounds and St. Bernards also excel with proper handling and training.
