What does XNA stand for?
Every airport today has a unique three-letter identifier to streamline the process of tracking the millions of items of airport data transmitted daily, including flight plans and weather reports. When XNA was opened in November 1998, a three-letter identifier was assigned to the airport. Since airports have been around since the early 1900s, most of the identifiers that are relevant to Northwest Arkansas have already been taken. XNA was the only one left that made any sense. We like to think it stands for Xtra Nice Airport. It could also be interpreted as X (signifying crossroads) of Northwest Arkansas. The letters otherwise have no meaning.
