What does Winaukee do to make our new campers feel welcome?
We recognize that every boy is unique, and so our directors work closely with each new family to ensure that each new camper is placed in the appropriate cabin. In order to get to know and understand each boy as an individual, one of our directors meets in person (where possible) with every boy who is planning to attend Winaukee. In order to gain additional insight, we send parents an interest questionnaire which elicits information about each new camper. One of the directors speaks with every new family to review the questionnaire and to discuss our recommendations for a compatible bunk placement. In addition, before the summer begins, each group leader contacts every new camper in his group to welcome him and to answer any questions. Our two “Camp Moms” pay special attention to our youngest campers who may need help with personal hygiene or adjustment to camp. The bunk unit is important at Winaukee.
