What does Western mean by the judicial review process?
Western’s student handbook outlines a code of conduct for all students. Any conduct which violates college policies or regulation may subject a student to disciplinary action. Disciplinary action can involve a wide variety of sanctions from probation to residence hall expulsion to college expulsion. The Student Handbook guarantees students a due process in these procedures. The Dean of Student Affairs investigates the violation and may offer a student an informal disposition of the case, which means the Dean and student agree to the appropriate sanction based on the violation. If the student does not agree to the suggested sanction, a formal hearing can take place. The college hearing panel will hear the case and be able to determine what, if any, sanctions are placed upon the student. The student also has the ability to appeal the decision to an appellate panel.
