VST is an abbreviation for Virtual Studio Technology. The VST plugin technology is an interface standard for connecting audio effect plugins to audio editors and hard-disk recording systems. A VST plugin is a real-time audio processing module that can be hosted by any VST compatible host software, for example Steinberg Cubase, WaveLab, Nuendo, or Cakewalk Sonar 3. The VST plugin interface was developed by Steinberg some time ago but is now widely adopted by many audio software and plugin vendors.
