What Does VSOP Stand For In Martell VSOP?
The V.S.O.P. stands for ‘Very Superior Old Pale’ and is used in relation to any cognac, not only the Martell brand, where the youngest cognac in the blend is at least four years old. Other types of cognac labelling include V.S. and X.O. or Napoleon. These include cognacs that have been aged for a minimum of 2 years and 6 years respectively. The ageing process for all cognacs takes place in traditionally made oak casks. The fact is that every cognac is a mix of many different cognacs of different ages and also grapes. However, all grapes used in the making of any cognac must be from the Cognac region of France. The wine made from these grapes is outstanding for the distillation process involved in cognac making. Each Cognac house has its own Master Blender who is responsible for creating, and maintaining the quality, of the final blend.
