WHAT DOES TITLE IX MEAN?
Title IX empowers women. It guarantees equal opportunity in education, and education opens doors to success. One focus is on success in athletics. Today over 150,000 women play college sports and 2.8 million high school girls play sports. But Title IX is much more. It also means access to college. It means math, science, and technology classes instead of just home economics. And it means protection against sexual harassment and sex discrimination. Title IX means economic progress for women and their families as more women earn college degrees, build self-confidence and independence from playing sports and excelling in school, and participate in the new economy.
