What Does “THX Certified” Mean? Sunday March 8, 2009 In more than one review, I have lauded a PC sound system — such as Logitech’s Z-5500 THX Certified 5.1 surround sound — for achieving an official THX Certification. But what exactly does that mean? In short, it means that the sound the speakers produce will be heard in exactly the same manner as the audio engineer intended as he recorded it. It’s an industry standard for high quality sound reproduction — but, interestingly, not for recording. It’s all about the system playing the audio, not necessarily the format used for recording it.
