What does three dots mean at the end of a sentense in text messaging?
From that context, I gather she was disappointed that she could not make it. The three dots, in this kind of usage, can symbolise sarcasm, frustration or disappointment (or, if none of those, simply a trailing-off to prevent an outright statement). So it is easy to get mixed messages… Sarcasm: Yeah, right, and I’m Superman… Frustration: Whatever… Disappointment: I wish I had a puppy… I’m sure it can represent a host of other emotions I’m not aware of. In other areas it is called an ellipsis, and is used to show where something in a sentence has been omitted, a trailing-off of thought, or an interruption to the flow of the sentence.
