Retrogrades are an optical illusion, caused when the earth is moving faster than the planet which is in retrograde motion, so the planet (in this case mercury) is not really moving backwards, it’s just that earth is moving forward faster, which makes the other planet appear to either be at a standstill or actually moving clockwise rather than counter clockwise. Retrograde transiting Mercury causes difficulty with communications, short trips, commuting, siblings, and just general hassles and hang ups.
