What does the World Hunger Map really symbolize?
This engaging worldmap illustrates the approximate frequency and location of hunger-related deaths in our world. Whenever a you see a burst of light, it symbolizes that someone has just died from hunger in that area of the world. The illustration is based on the statistics that 24,000 (plus) people die of hunger each day (see About Hunger), which is equivalent to one death every 4 or less seconds. Statistical data from the United Nations is used to determine the relative frequency of hunger deaths in each of the 32 countries with the highest hunger mortality.
