What does the word watershed mean?
A watershed is the area of land that catches snow and rain that drains or seeps into marshes, streams, lakes, etc. and eventually ends up in a watercourse or body of water. The Nicola watershed is named for the river which catches the water from a large area, about 1.8 million acres or 7,280 square kilometers. The Coldwater River drains (flows) into the Nicola River and hence is in the Nicola watershed.
