What does the word “Shotokan” and “Taijitsu” mean?
Shotokan Karate is a traditional Japanese martial art. It is a system of offensive and defensive techniques utilizing the various parts of the body as weapons and shields. The arms and legs are used for this purpose. The training is broken up into 3 categories : – Kihon (training without a partner and training of basics) – Kata (it is a set of offensive and defensive movements executed as a set) – Kumite (Kumite is sparring and there are several levels of difficulty associated with it)Taijitsu, sometimes known as Ninjutsu, is a form of Japanese martial arts. The word Taijutsu means “body skill.” Taijutsu teaches individuals to use their own natural power through grappling, throwing, strikes and defensive movements to avoid attacks. Over time, there have been developments of different variations in Taijutsu and it has grown into one of the most popular and most effective forms of martial arts in the world.
