WHAT DOES THE WORD “EDEN” MEAN?
The Hebrew word means “delight.” The place where God placed humanity was an absolutely delightful place. And the very suggestion of the Garden of Eden is that our God is not a God with a baseball bat, sitting in Heaven, ready to club you if you make a mistake. The Bible teaches that God is One who wants to bring delight and joy to His people. God wants to bless you and I more than we want to receive it. I really believe that. God is interested in your delight – in your joy. In Isaiah 51:3, God talks about how He is going to change everything in the future, at least for Israel, and bring the promised blessing.
