What Does The Water Opossum Look Like?
The water opossum is about 27 to 32.5 centimetres in length and has a long tail that measures between 36 and 40 centimetres. Its fur is black and grey in colour and has a marbled pattern. However, the muzzle, eyestripe and crown of the water opossum are all black in colour. The water opossum has rounded and naked ears (that is, its ears are not covered in fur.) A light band runs across its forehead anterior and extends upto its ears. The water opossum has whiskers and sensory facial bristles, which are located in tufts above each eye. The water opossum’s tail is furry and black at the base, and yellow or white at its end. Its back feet (hind legs) are webbed and its front feet are actually its hands, which help it to feel for and grab prey as its swims. It uses its tail and webbed hind feet to propel itself as it swims.
