What does the United States Coast Guard do? Is it dangerous?

Well the coast guard is another branch of the military. But it is probably the safest branch to be in aside from say the air force. The missions vary depending on unit but generally it is maritime safety and resque. Lots of time out at sea standing watch broken up by moments of terror saveing someone from a sinking ship or pulling immigrants out of the water or stopping a go-faster but mostly lots of time spend on partoll looking for such activities. Unless he goes to a land unit then its lots of radio or maintenance. Its not a place i would be overly concerned there are dangers involved but nothing like combat ops.
