What does the term Contention Ratio mean?
This is the sharing of available bandwidth between a pre-determined number of other users. Example, a contention of 20:1 means that you share the bandwidth with up to 19 other users, i.e; the performance of an ADSL connection will vary according to time of day and day of the week, depending on how many other users are online at the same time. The Contention ratios available with ADSL are either 50:1 or 20:1. The lower the contention ratio the better chance of reaching the optimum data transfer speeds.
