What does the SSI Coat of Arms (logo) represent?
The SSI Coat of Arms, which can be seen on the website’s white background and on all of our materials, is divided into two halves, the first being the mailed glove with a torch and the second being the surrounding buckled belt and Latin phrase. The mailed glove and torch symbolizes enlightenment of the military, which is part of the War College’s Coat of Arms. The buckled belt represents the integrity and unity of effort required of a research institute. The Latin translates to, “Science Reigns.” The combination of these two halves reinforces our relationship with the Army’s senior educational institution. This particular coat of arms was adopted in 1981 under the directorship of COL Keith A. Barlow.
