What does the Socio-economics Extension Program do?
This program helps natural resource managers in British Columbia access information that can answer social and economic questions. The Partnership investigates the gaps in socio-economic information, communicates those gaps to the research community, and provides ways for resource managers to access research-based information. As a result of our work, we expect that resource managers will better understand the diversity of human values affecting natural resources and acquire some tools to help manage that diversity. The main objectives of the Socio-economic Program are to: • Develop networks between scientists involved in sociology, anthropology, geography, macro and microeconomics, public involvement, forest policy, and community economic development to raise the level of social science research in resource management. • Assist resource managers to access knowledge that will help them address “people” issues and meet the increasing demand for public and community involvement in resour
