What does the silvery facing do?
The facing on NV materials is aluminized polyester. Layered over the urethane damping sheet, the polyester film enhances the damping performance. It also is very efficient at reflecting radiant heat, thereby helping to keep the temperatures of the underlying material, adhesive layer and the substrate well below elevated ambient temperatures. The shiny facing also reflects a great deal of light, of particular significance for equipment enclosures that require periodic inspections or maintenance. Often, no additional light is required to read a dial inside a cabinet lined with an aluminized polyester-faced material, while a cabinet lined with standard black material requires auxiliary illumination. In an NV composite, the polyester film also protects the foam from soil and fluids.
